Hopping right in, without introduction—I think I’m a bit more used to writing blog posts/journal entries than I am email threads, so this will make the most sense if you read the last one:
I realised that in the last post I didn’t mention the name of the boom arm. Well, I guess here you get to see it too… it’s called the Elgato Wave microphone arm with adjustable support.
I looked at a few review videos on YouTube, but wanted something that could fold away nicely and the vertical ones were all a bit too intrusive. I had tested a number of floor stands, but they’re a royal pain in the ass to set up and pack away, so that wasn’t an option.

It arrived, sooner than I expected and after some tinkering about where I should attach it, I think I found the perfect place. Off to the right hand side, rather than the back corner as it allows for most of my desk to remain accessible, and can be collapsed till mostly out of sight when not in use.
After reading that back, I suppose I could have it centre-back (I doubled checked, it doesn’t fit), but then I wonder how that would work… Whatever, it’s here for now, maybe I’ll move it at a later date!
I seemed to have ordered an XLR cable that’s too fat to fit through the holes in the boom, so I’ve sent them back, and in my excitement, hastily ordered another one.
Then, just the mic to be bought and I’m good to go. The one here in the image belongs to my work and is an Audio Technica AT2020, large diaphragm condenser, fine for this endeavour, but I have a different one in mind.
