The workstation for creative people is very important and the more people you speak to, the more you’ll find a different way of working.
For me, I prefer a de-cluttered area, facing a window to allow my thoughts to roam free. I need to have nothing around my computer that could distract me, or remind me of something else that needs doing.
I also need the important things—in this case, microphone, preamp and computer—to be easily accessible to ensure that I can start with as close to a click of a button as possible.
I find that the smallest of inconveniences is often enough to completely deter me from executing a task or activity… hiding Instagram off the main homepage of my iPhone, for example, works wonders! I forget that I even have it installed, when in reality it’s only three swipes away.

I ordered the boom arm today, the next piece of the puzzle as I put together what I need for the recording to start. I suppose I could start sooner, but I think having all the same equipment will keep some level of continuity in the quality, rather than chopping and changing between mics.
I have started building out the ideas in my head, and since I’ll be doing this sort of thing for my work’s podcast, I’ll get some practice in before I do it for my own personal project.
Keen to get recording, though I do need to finish my written story for this month first!
