I’m so excited to launch my first couple episodes of the Remaining Mark podcast and my first full-fledged written story as well—so much so, that once again I’ve forgotten to say Hi.
I chose to start with my story that described the yellow door in the image more so than running in chronological order as I typically write my stories based off how I’m feeling—some are more painful than others and thus require a certain mindset. I’ve definitely found that in some pieces there is a sense of bleeding onto the page as I revisit the old wound in order to fully process the events that transpired.
Thankfully though, we’re starting light. Well, as light as a topic related to a cancer journey can be I suppose.
Here’s what you can expect to follow this week:
Episode 0: An introduction to who I am. I discuss a bit about my studies and creativity, and how it relates to me ending up here. I also speak a bit about why I write on the topic of cancer. In short, Episode 0 is a 5 minute description of the Mark in Remaining Mark.
Episode 1A: This is the first story, titled Behind the Yellow Door and is narrated mostly verbatim. My recording style is all about creating an immersive audio experience, so accompanying the story is music and sound effects, decorated with the use of binaural. That means, for the best experience, headphones are required. I assume though, most people by default listen to music and podcasts with them anyway. If not, that’s also fine, you’ll still hear everything, but just as a regular stereo output.
Episode 1B: This will be the first set of my Author’s Notes that will accompany each narrated episode, a purely candid and unscripted extract. You see, I can’t include everything into a piece like this because otherwise we would be here for ages, and you’d lose interest quickly. When I write my stories, I still have to cut out a lot of the ‘journal’ like notes which usually include how I was feeling, who I was with and what my mental state was at that time. These B-side episodes will include all of that.
Behind the Yellow Door (#1): The written story that Episodes 1A and B are based on. Maybe you don’t want to listen to my voice and would rather just consume the text. Now you got the option—that said, I would greatly appreciate it if you did test drive my voice first, maybe you like it too!
I don’t plan on doing a launch post for all my stories, just this one to accompany to start.
I look forward to sharing my work with you!
